"Childhood's Favorites and Fairy Stories The Young Folks Treasury, Volume 1"

The mischievous raven
Flew laughing away;
Bumpety, bumpety, bump!
And vowed he would serve them
The same the next day;
Bumpety, bumpety, bump!

This is the way the ladies ride--
Saddle-a-side, saddle-a-side!
This is the way the gentlemen ride--
Sitting astride, sitting astride!
This is the way the grandmothers ride--
Bundled and tied, bundled and tied!
This is the way the babykins ride--
Snuggled inside, snuggled inside!

WHAT DOES LITTLE BIRDIE SAY?
What does little birdie say,
In her nest at peep of day?
"Let me fly," says little birdie,
"Mother, let me fly away."
Birdie, rest a little longer,
Till the little wings are stronger.
So she rests a little longer,
Then she flies away.
What does little baby say,
In her bed at peep of day?
Baby says, like little birdie,
"Let me rise and fly away."
Baby, sleep a little longer,
Till the little limbs are stronger.
If she sleeps a little longer,
Baby, too, shall fly away.
ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON

GOOD NIGHT
Little baby, lay your head
On your pretty cradle-bed;
Shut your eye-peeps, now the day
And the light are gone away;
All the clothes are tucked in tight;
Little baby dear, good night.
